Hiking
In 2014, President Obama designated the San-Gabriel Mountain a national monument. For our family, who regularly hikes in these mountains, this was not a surprise.
We came to Pasadena in 2009 with our 8 month old son. Since then we are trying to take full advantage of what nature in this area has to offer. And it has a lot to offer…
This is not a hiking-guide website. There are plenty of very good guides out there. However, trying to find the right hikes for families with small kids is not easy. There are hardly any guides that are targeted for families (but quite a few for dog owners…).
This site serves two purposes. First, it is our family's hikes log-book. Second, it serves the community by helping families find hikes they can manage with kids.
The amount of information on each hike in this site is minimal. I am trying to list the distance, elevation gain and sometimes some extra comment or two based on our experience.
The reader could use this site as a starting point for their search. It lists trails that are usually shorter than 4 miles and are manageable with kids. After finding some options, the reader should Google the name of the hike and find a better guide with description of the hike and how to get there.
I warmly recommend www.trails.com. It has a huge amount of trail guides. However, it is not free. If you feel strongly against paying for content, there are plenty of other free resources. Just google it…
Of course, and needless to say, the fact that hikes are listed on this site is not a guarantee that they are perfectly safe. It only means that we enjoyed them…
